Book Club

Book Club

A few weeks ago the year 4-8's in our class got sorted into groups by choosing our favourite book. We have discussion tickets to write out everyday, after reading all our decided upon pages.
We have a booklet with our set jobs, we have to fill out before discussion day. Each person has a different job to do.
My job is the Translator, all I have to do is choose a figurative sentence that I've found in the book and read, this involves recording what type of figurative language it is and describing what it means. Later you meet up again with your group and write out your group work page, and fill out the questions that it has.

All together I think it's good to be all together, to read and to discuss.

Geometry

 Geometry

Today for maths we went outside and looked for examples of vertical, parallel and perpendicular lines.

I learnt that perpendicular lines are two lines that have a 90°/right angle.

Polygons

 Polygons

Today in mathematics we learnt about properties of polygons as well as what are not polygons.
A polygon is a 2D shape with straight lines, and lines that connect up. A polygon isn't a 3D shape, or a shape with lines that don't connect up.
This link is what I learnt today.

Mau Rakau And Bone Carving

 Mau Rākau And Bone Carving

Our class and the senior class received the opportunity to be included in a group for Mau Rākau and bone carving.

We have been working on our Mau Rākau item for around eight weeks and we have nearly completed It. We are performing the item next Friday at school infront of the school.

We have been learning how to respect the Mau Rākau and respecting the Maori ways, It has been good for my motivation because I have nearly accomplished and item and learning how to discipline myself.

In Bone Carving we have been working on a small piece of bone, I have sketched the design of a Hei Matau on to It. And sandpapered It lots so that the colour of the bone turned white and smooth, Next Wenesday I will see the full result of the bone cut out. Next time I will sandpaper It so that all the rough edges are smooth.

Here Is a picture of the shape of a Hei Matau.

Monster Under My Bed With The Big Orange Eyes

Monster Under My Bed

No one believes me. They think I’m lying But It’s really true, A big, hairy, Monster. Lives under my Bed and I can prove It.

The Girl waits under her sheets petrified. Soon she sees humongous, scruffy, hands. Reaching under the Bed, Her eyes were In shock.

“GrumBLE GRumBLE”! The Monster’s stomach rumbles the Girl thought It was thunder!

“I’m STARVING, I’m HUNGRY FOR CHILDREN STEW”! Growls the Monster. Aaaa! Screams the Girl.

It was pitch black outside the moonshine was shining on her face.

Suddenly, The light of the golden sun shines through the blinds onto the terrifying Monster. She peeked at the Monster from out of the sheets clutching onto her pillows, The Monster glaring at her with his huge orange eyes and his sharp, pointy claws. They seemed as sharp as knives. The sun blasted onto the Monster’s face and It vanished! The girl was shocked as ever her heart was beating as fast as a cheetah running across the field. She was relived but the big question Is where had the Monster gone?
